Johnpaul Guminkiriza founded Jopie Engineering Group in Kampala, Uganda in 2016 and has been a project manager on developments including NSSF Solana Lifestyle Residences (approximately US$400 million) and Acacia Mall. After relocating to Canada he founded Jopie Construction Group to give Ontario homeowners and businesses the same schedule and budget discipline.

How do I know if my contractor is properly insured in Ontario?
Ask for a certificate of liability insurance and a WSIB clearance certificate, and check that both are current before work starts. Contractors should provide both without hesitation. Fully insured and WSIB-covered. Documentation provided before work begins.
What happens if my project runs over budget?
Most overruns come from unclear scope and hidden conditions, not from the work itself. We give a written quote with inclusions, exclusions and allowances. If something unexpected turns up, such as old wiring or rot, we explain it and price it before proceeding, and nothing is added without your written approval. In older homes we recommend a contingency.
Do you handle permits and inspections?
Yes. When work needs a permit, such as structural changes, plumbing relocation, egress windows or secondary suites, we prepare and submit the application and book the inspections into the schedule. Cosmetic work like painting or flooring does not need one.
How soon can you start?
Most projects start after a walkthrough and a signed written quote. Timing depends on our current schedule and on material lead times — custom cabinets and specialty tile can add weeks. We give you a start window with the quote, and smaller jobs such as painting can often be scheduled sooner than large renovations.
What does your one-year workmanship warranty cover?
It covers defects in our labour and workmanship for one year after completion — for example a failed joint, poor finish or installation error — and we return to fix them. Materials are covered by the manufacturer's warranty, not ours, and normal wear, misuse and damage caused by others are not covered.
Where do you work?
We are based in Hamilton and work in Ancaster, Dundas, Stoney Creek, Waterdown, Binbrook, Flamborough, Burlington, Oakville and Grimsby. If you are outside this area, call us — there is a good chance we cover it.
